Ficus microcarpa nitida 'Green Gem'

Indian Laurel Fig 'Green Gem' is a lush evergreen hedge that can reach heights of 30 to 50 feet tall with a similar spread. The new growth is lime green and looks stunning against the older, darker leaves, giving Green Gem Indian Laurel Fig a nice two-tone effect in the garden. Can be easily pruned as a hedge 6 feet or taller for a dense green wall. Constant shearing or pruning is required to maintain the desired shape and density. The branches are thickly covered with elliptic green leaves. Green Gem was selected as an improved variety over the species for its resistance to thrips, a small insect that causes leaf curl and spotting. It is situated well for Southern California landscapes, both inland and coastal. Not recommended for our cold desert regions or the areas north of the San Francisco Bay.
